Report: Matthew Stafford headed to Rams, Jared Goff to Lions

The NFC West just got a little more interesting and one of the offseason quarterback dominoes has fallen. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions have agreed to a deal exchanging quarterbacks Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford and draft picks.

The Rams give up a pair of future first-round draft picks and a third-round pick in addition to Goff to acquire Stafford.

The Rams had the league’s No. 1 defense in 2020 and looked like it could at times be a Super Bowl contender but Goff did not have a great year.

Stafford passed for 4,084 yards in 2020 with 26 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions.

The Arizona Cardinals will still face both quarterbacks next season. They will face the Rams and Stafford twice and were already set to play the Lions. Instead of Stafford, it will be Goff they face.

Both the Rams and San Francisco 49ers were in position to make moves at quarterback. San Francisco was viewed as a likely destination for Stafford. Instead, he heads to Los Angeles and now we will see what happens with the 49ers and Jimmy Garoppolo.

One thing is clear. The Rams got better at the most important position.
