Report: Mark Sanchez retires and is hired by ESPN

Veteran NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez has retired after 10 seasons in the NFL and will move into the broadcast booth, the New York Post reports.

Sanchez, who starred at USC, before coming a first-round pick of the New York Jets will be a college football analyst at ESPN.

Per the Post:

Sources tell The Post the former Jets quarterback’s main job will be in ABC’s lead college football studio, where he will join Kevin Negandhi and Jon Vilma. Sanchez is replacing Mack Brown, who left to coach North Carolina.

Sanchez was the fifth overall pick by the Jets in the 2009 draft out of USC. He led the team to two AFC Championship Games.

He also became the punch line of incessant video replays after the “Butt Fumble” on Thanksgiving of 2012. The QB ran into the backside of his offensive lineman against the New England Patriots, coughed up the ball and it was returned for a TD.

Sanchez went on to play for the Eagles and Cowboys. He was a Chicago Bear but did not play for them in 2017 and signed with the Redskins during the 2018 season.

On his first play, he handed off to Adrian Peterson, who ran 90 yards for a touchdown.

Sanchez was 37-36 as a starter, throwing for 15,357 yards, 86 touchdowns and 89 picks.

The Post reports Sanchez auditioned for FOX Sports, too, but they did not have a similar spot and it made his decision easy.
