Report: Malcolm Jenkins seeking a “hefty’ raise from the Eagles

Malcolm Jenkins has been missing in action from Eagles offseason activities all spring and according to Howard Eskins of 94WIP, the Birds safety is likely to continue to stay away deep into the summer. According to Eskins, Jenkins is seeking a hefty raise from the Eagles, and will likely skip the team’s mandatory minicamp.

Eskins report echos that of ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, who previously reported that Jenkins could be missing for the foreseeable future.

— Update—

Adam Schefter has now reported that Jenkins will be in attendance at the Eagles mandatory minicamp despite his perceived unhappiness with his contract.

Jenkins is looking to get back into the top half of highest-paid safeties after the list changed significantly following a free agency period that saw players cash out at the position. Jenkins agreed to a four-year, $35 million extension three years ago, but in this high octane passing climate, deep rangy safeties are all the rage and Jenkins has fallen back some in terms of annual salary. According to Over The Cap, Jenkins is now the 10th-highest-paid safety in terms of the total value. The Eagles safety is due almost $11.4 million this season and $10.8 million in 2020, nowhere near what safeties Landon Collins and Tyrann Mathieu now make. Collin’s six-year, $84 million deal gives him an annual salary of $14 million. While Mathieu’s three-year, $42 million contract values out to $11 million per.

Either way, the regular season is a few months away, and plenty can happen between now and then. Jenkins deserves a raise, Howie Roseman doesn’t mind restructuring deals and a compromise can certainly be reached.
