Fire up the Jimbo Fisher to LSU chatter once again.
Fisher is one of the top candidates for LSU's head coaching job, and the school has "maintained lines of communication" with his representatives, according to a Tuesday report from NOLA.com.
The report, citing anonymous sources, says Fisher is LSU athletic director Joe Alleva's "guy from the beginning."
Fisher, who is in his seventh season as Florida State's head coach, is in the running along with LSU's interim coach Ed Oregeron and North Carolina's Larry Fedora, among other coaches.
When Les Miles was fired from the post in September, Fisher said of FSU: "I love this university. I plan on being here for a long time."
The report says Fisher's buyout of $5 million before Dec. 31 would not deter LSU from their pursuit. It drops to $3 million on Jan. 1, 2017.
Fisher's name has been linked to the LSU coaching job since last season, and he entered negotiations before LSU opted to retain Miles, according to a December 2015 report from The (Baton Rouge, La.) Advocate.
Fisher, who is getting paid $5.075 million this season, is under contract with Florida State on a $44 million deal through 2022. He has led Florida State to the 2013 national championship and three Atlantic Coast Conference Championships from 2012-14.
The Seminoles, who play their penultimate game of the regular season at Syracuse on Saturday, are in the midst of their second straight season with three losses, and hope to finish the season with 10 wins for the fifth consecutive year.
Fisher succeeded Bobby Bowden in 2010, and has been at Florida State since 2007.
Fisher coached seven seasons as an offensive coordinator at LSU, helping Nick Saban win a national championship in 2003.
