Report: Lions will sign former AAF QB Luis Perez

It appears the Detroit Lions are not yet done shuffling the deck at quarterback. Per Adam Caplan of FOX Sports and Sirius SM NFL Radio, the team is set to sign former AAF gunslinger Luis Perez.

After winning the Harlon Hill Award, the D-II version of the Heisman Trophy, for Texas A&M-Commerce following the 2017 college season, Perez went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Perez spent the 2018 offseason with the Los Angeles Rams but was waived after the preseason. That’s when he found his way to the ill-fated AAF. He had an up-and-down ride with the Birmingham Iron, completing just 52.3 percent of his passes and throwing 6 INTs to 5 TDs in eight games. Perez also ran for 75 yards.

Once the AAF folded, Perez signed with the Philadelphia Eagles but was cut after rookie minicamp.

The information was first reported by Ben Allbright of KOA in Denver.
