Report: Lions sign LB Christian Jones to a contract extension

Christian Jones will be playing linebacker in Detroit for at least two more seasons. Per a report from NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero, the Lions and Jones have agreed to a two-year contract extension.

It’s a rare in-season move for GM Bob Quinn to do any contract extension for anyone. The Lions typically do not do business during the season.

The new deal will keep Jones with the Lions through the 2021 season. Contractual details are not yet available.

Jones joined the Lions in the summer of 2018, signing a two-year, $6.35 million contract to jump in free agency from the division-rival Bears. He’s started every game since joining the team, recording 97 tackles, three sacks and breaking up seven passes in 23 games.
