Report: Lions release QB Josh Johnson

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Detroit Lions are releasing quarterback Josh Johnson. The Lions have yet to confirm the report — they likely will as Schefter has a proven track record of consistency — so there is no corresponding move announced at this time.

This leaves the Lions with only Matthew Stafford and undrafted rookie David Blough as the only two quarterbacks on the active roster. Based on past roster construction, this is typically how the Lions prefer to operate at the position, thus freeing up a roster spot for another position.

Blough has only been with the Lions for three weeks — after trading for him at the cut deadline — but it appears he has impressed Lions coaches enough to make this move.

We will keep you updated as the Lions address this report and any additional roster moves that are made.
