REPORT: LB Quincy Williams to miss 4-6 weeks with slight meniscus tear

Linebacker Quincy Williams has arguably been the Jacksonville Jaguars’ most impressive rookie since getting drafted this April, however, the progress he’s made will have to come to a brief halt. Per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, he will miss four to six weeks after sustaining a slight meniscus tear.

Williams, 22, was drafted by the Jags in the third-round of the 2019 NFL Draft (No. 98 overall). A lot was made of his selection because many draft pundits didn’t view him as a top-100 selection, but he’s shown the fans in attendance at Jags training camp just what the hype was about. In fact, Jags coach Doug Marrone even went on to call him one of the fastest players on the practice field this week. That said, it would appear his absence could be a big blow — albeit temporary.

Williams was battling veterans Ramik Wilson and Najee Goode to take over at weak-side linebacker with Telvin Smith taking the season off. Now, it’s on both veterans to match the performance that Williams had over the course of the last few months as the rookie should be able to return a few weeks into the regular season if he isn’t placed on injured reserve.
