Eagles star right tackle Lane Johnson played through a torn abductor during his team’s playoff run and will undergo surgery later this week, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Johnson delayed surgery, and his efforts helped Philadelphia earn a Super Bowl appearance though it ultimately fell short on Sunday night against the Chiefs.
Johnson suffered the injury on Dec. 24 against the Cowboys, which is why he sat out the final two games of the season, per Eagles Today. Despite the injury, Johnson played like his All-Pro self against the Giants in the divisional round, vs. the 49ers in the NFC championship and played a key role in the Eagles scoring 35 points in the losing effort in Super Bowl LVII.
Johnson was named to his fourth Pro Bowl this past season and was named All-Pro for the third time during his illustrious career. The Philadelphia offensive lineman shined all year and is a key reason why the team led the league in rushing touchdowns (32).
The 32-year-old will look to come back for the 2023 season healthy and ready to run it back.
