Report: LaMelo Ball docuseries following road to 2020 NBA Draft being shopped

Already one of the most popular basketball prospects in history, LaMelo Ball and his family look set to potentially cash in on his fame.

On Wednesday, Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports reported that a documentary series following Ball’s path to the 2020 NBA Draft was being shopped around for potential suitors.

The proposed documentary about the youngest son of LaVar and Tina Ball is drawing definite interest from sports TV networks and media outfits.

“LaMelo is as hot as anybody coming into the (NBA) Draft this year. He could generate as many eyeballs as (No. 1 overall pick) Zion Williamson did last year,” said one source.

The price for the documentary is said to be in the $2 million range, said sources. That could scare off some suitors.

Ball wouldn’t be the first athlete to have a documentary about himself. LeBron James’ documentary “More Than A Game” covered his time in high school as one of the most popular prospects of all-time. His documentary, though, came out in 2009, nearly a decade after his high school days.

But Ball’s documentary would be more of a real-time piece. Per the report, the documentary is expected to be “an HBO ’24/7′-like documentary series’ that would offer fans a look behind the curtain at Ball.

Neither he nor his family are strangers to the public eye. The family’s Facebook show “Ball in the Family” is in its fifth season and has been watched by millions. Ball, himself, has been in the public eye since his freshman year at Chino Hills where, along with his older brothers, the family was thrust into the spotlight largely by father LaVar.

Since then, LaMelo has taken stops all over the world from Lithuania, across Europe with the Junior Basketball Association Select Team and in Australia in the National Basketball League.
