Report: Lakers to have ‘exploratory’ talks with Dion Waiters

The Los Angeles Lakers are turning to alternative plans to improve their roster following the news that free agent guard Darren Collison intends to stay retired. And there is another guard to consider that recently hit the market, one the Lakers have interest in, Dion Waiters.

According to ESPN’s duo of Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst, the Lakers are expected to have “exploratory” talks with Waiters, who is now represented by Klutch Sports. Another nugget that is also of importance: Lakers president Rob Pelinka used to represent Waiters.

The fact that Waiters has close ties to both Klutch Sports and the Lakers front office cannot be ignored as a factor in the decision the Lakers have to make. Once again, however, such a move would have to be weighed by how it may affect the Lakers incredible team chemistry.

Also, another consideration is if Waiters is the correct fit next to LeBron. Waiters played with LeBron for less than half a season after LeBron’s return to Cleveland before getting traded to Oklahoma City. However, as Dwight Howard’s experience has shown, it’s never too late for a player to change, especially if he’s brought into a serious team like the Lakers.
