Report: Lakers scout, coach Greg St. Jean joining Jason Kidd’s staff with Mavericks

Earlier this offseason, former Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Jason Kidd departed his position in L.A. to become a head coach with the Dallas Mavericks.

Kidd joined the Lakers in 2019 when Frank Vogel became the head coach, but the opportunity with Dallas was a perfect move for Kidd.

The Mavericks drafted Kidd in the 1994 NBA draft, and Kidd also won a championship with the franchise in 2011.

When Kidd finalized the move, which is a four-year deal, reports indicated Kidd could seek to bring members of the Lakers staff with him.

Given Kidd has spots to fill in his staff, it would be plausible to promote people over from L.A. with who he had close relationships.

According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, Kidd is bringing over Greg St. Jean from the Lakers:

St. Jean also joined Vogel’s staff in L.A. in 2019 and has served as the team’s advanced scout and player development coach since.

St. Jean previously had roles as an assistant coach with the St. John’s Red Storm basketball team and as an assistant player developmental coach with the Sacramento Kings.

Now the Lakers will need to find a replacement for St. Jean’s position.
