Report: Lakers expected to have interest in Washington’s Bobby Portis

The Los Angeles Lakers already have three players on their currently very thin roster that play the power forward position in LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Kyle Kuzma.

But that apparently isn’t stopping the team from potentially having interest in another one: Washington Wizards forward Bobby Portis, according to Chase Hughes of NBA Sports Washington D.C.

Portis is expected to draw interest from the Lakers, Clippers, Jazz, Bucks, Magic and Knicks among others, NBC Sports Washington has learned.

Portis would help the Lakers in one area where they struggled last season: rebounding. Last season Portis posted a career-best 17.8% rebound rate and grabbed over 25% of available defensive rebounds on the season he spent between Chicago and Washington.

Portis has developed into a pretty good 3-point shooter at his position as well, shooting over 37.5% in each of the last three seasons. He was excellent to finish the season for the Wizards, shooting over 40% from 3. Portis could be a good choice to fill out the backup forward spots, likely at a lower cost than either of the Morris twins.

But the question about Portis is that he may overlap a little bit too much for a Lakers team that currently lacks a true center or a starting point guard. It will be interesting to see how the Lakers roster around LeBron James and Anthony Davis ultimately comes together.
