Report: Lakers called Thunder about Dennis Schröder’s availability

The trend of the Los Angeles Lakers looking for back-up point guard help continues, but with less than 24 hours to go until the NBA trade deadline, they’ve still yet to land the additional ball-handler they’ve been searching for.

In addition to Detroit’s Derrick Rose, the latest name to add to the list is Oklahoma City’s Dennis Schröder. But it doesn’t look likely that Schröder will end up in a Lakers uniform. ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reports that the talks centered on the seventh year guard out of Germany didn’t go very far.

The Lakers have been looking for guard help, with Rose being the biggest name bandied about. There have also been some other trade rumors regarding Kyle Kuzma and the Sacramento Kings, as well as the New York Knicks. Given that Kuzma is the most enticing young player on the Lakers roster and they don’t have many picks, any moves to improve upon the team would likely depend on the Lakers moving Kuzma and a couple of other pieces to match salary to bring in a veteran.
