Report: Kyrie Irving meeting with Nets in New York on Sunday

In a move that mirrors soon-to-be Boston Celtics point guard Kemba Walker’s first order of business when free agency begins on June 30, star point guard Kyrie Irving will meet with the Brooklyn Nets in New York — where he appears to have spent the bulk of his offseason — on Sunday.

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, both sides are motivated to move quickly toward reaching a four-year, $141 million contract that will have Irving play out the remainder of his prime on Wednesday.

Irving’s decision to join Nets has been long in the making but it was also, to extent, forced upon him with the Celtics putting their focus on Walker. Brooklyn, for as much as they dream to to pair Irving and Kevin Durant, may also be having their hand forced with guard D’Angelo Russell prepared to leave the Nets — and targeting specific teams— if Irving comes aboard.

Still, Irving does provide Brooklyn with a talent upgrade from the streaky DLo and the Nets — his hometown team — have long been reported as the favorites to sign Irving.
