With the NBA season officially behind us, prospects are gearing up for the NBA Draft, teams are gearing up for free agency and at least one Warrior is gearing up for a role in a major motion picture.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Klay Thompson will have a “key role” in the upcoming movie Space Jam 2, which will star LeBron James.
The movie is a kind of hybrid sequel to the original Space Jam which united Michael Jordan with Looney Tunes characters in a fight for the future against alien basketball players who had stolen the talents of NBA stars.
If the movie plays out in the same way as the original, Thompson, along with Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis, Diana Taurasi and Nneka Ogwumike will likely have their respective talents stolen by extraterrestrials, who will play a game of basketball for all the marbles.
What we don’t know yet is how Thompson’s torn ACL will play into the production of the film. The other NBA stars didn’t spend much time on the court in the original film, and if Space Jam 2 features the same animation style, Thompson’s role would be pretty minimal regardless.
Either way, James appears to have put together quite the cast to co-star with him in one of the most anticipated basketball-related movie remakes.
