Report: Klay Thompson plans on playing in 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Golden State Warriors stars Steph Curry and Draymond Green have expressed their desire to play in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Now, Klay Thompson is the latest Warrior to say he wants to play in next summer’s Olympics.

Thompson said in an article written by The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson that he plans on playing for Team USA next summer in Tokyo.

“I would love to play (for) Team USA,” Thompson said. “That is the plan. I would love to be on the Olympic team.”

Thompson won gold with Team USA at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and he also won gold with Team USA at the 2014 FIBA World Cup. Curry played with Thompson on that team, and Thompson said he would like to play alongside Curry in Tokyo.

“That would be amazing,” Thompson said. “Amazing. Because even when we played in the World Championships together, we were barely on the floor together.”

Thompson is currently sidelined with a left ACL injury, but he is expected to potentially return in February or March.

A three-time champion, Thompson would be an important player for Team USA. An elite shooting backcourt of Thompson and Curry would be difficult to stop. Add Green into the mix, and the Warriors’ star trio would pose matchup problems for opponents.
