Report: Klay Thompson has suffered a season-ending Achilles tear

Prior to the start of the 2020 NBA draft on Wednesday, the Golden State Warriors announced Klay Thompson has suffered a leg injury during a workout in Southern California.

At that time, there was little clarity on the extent of Thompson’s injury. However, there was fear the five-time All-Star shooting guard suffered a “significant” Achilles injury.

On Wednesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported Thompson suffered a season-ending Achilles tear.

Via @wojespn on Twitter:

In June of 2019, Thompson suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during the third quarter of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. The three-time Champion went on to miss all of Golden State’s 2019-20 campaign.

Following an extended rehab, Thompson was medically cleared to train without restrictions earlier in Golden State’s offseason. After a 15-month layoff from the court, Thompson joined his teammates at San Francisco’s Chase Center in early October for Golden State’s voluntary preseason minicamp.

Thompson was expected to be back on the floor at Chase Center for Golden State’s preseason training camp in December.

However, at 30-years-old, Thompson’s Achilles injury will keep him sidelined for back-to-back seasons.
