Report: Kenny Moore’s new contract has max value over $36M

The Indianapolis Colts locked up cornerback Kenny Moore to a four-year extension Thursday in a deal that is expected to make him the highest-paid slot defender in the NFL.

The finer details of the extension have yet to surface, but the deal reportedly has $30 million in new money (2021-23) with a max value of over $36 million, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star reported Moore’s deal could reach as high as $40 million when escalators are included.

Mike Wells of ESPN reported that Moore is set to receive $18 million in guaranteed money.

So, to break it down: Moore signed a four-year extension worth $34 million. His new money ($30 million) kicks in between 2021-23, and he has escalators that could add an extra $6 million.

Moore has a base salary of $645,000 in 2019.

The Colts haven’t been shy about re-signing their own to extensions. Moore joins punter Rigoberto Sanchez and long snapper Luke Rhodes as players that received extensions in the last week alone.

Moore has emerged as one of the most important defenders for the Colts. He’s extremely versatile working both on the outside and in the slot while providing solid coverage in both man and zone concepts. The Colts even began using him as a blitzer from the slot down the stretch of the 2018 season.

The Colts cornerback room will have a lot of competition during training camp and the preseason, but Moore will be entrenched as a starter in the secondary.
