Report: Kenny Atkinson nearing agreement to join Steve Kerr’s coaching staff with Warriors

Before the offseason is officially underway following the conclusion of the NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors are continuing to make changes to their coaching staff alongside Steve Kerr.

Following the exit of longtime assistant coach Jarron Collins and the hire of Dejan Milojevic, the Warriors are close to adding a former head coach to Kerr’s staff. According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the Warriors are near an agreement with Kenny Atkinson to join Kerr’s coaching staff in the Bay Area.

From 2016 through 2020, Atkinson served as the head coach for the Brooklyn Nets. In four seasons, Atkinson recorded a 118-190 overall record as head coach. In 2019, Atkinson led the Nets to an appearance in the Eastern Conference postseason.

Following his departure from the Nets, Atkinson joined Tyronn Lue’s staff with the Los Angeles Clippers. Atkinson has also served as an assistant with the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks.
