Report: Kenny Atkinson decides not to take Hornets job, staying with Warriors as assistant coach

Following the Golden State Warriors‘ run through the postseason, a pair of Steve Kerr’s assistant coaches were set to take head coaching positions with different teams.

Mike Brown was heading to Sacramento for the Kings’ head coaching opening and Kenny Atkinson was on his way to take the Charlotte Hornets head coach job.

However, after the Warriors were crowned the 2022 NBA champions, Atkinson will remain in the Bay Area. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Atkinson won’t take the Hornets’ job and stay on the Warriors’ bench with Kerr.

Before joining Steve Kerr’s staff, Atkinson served as the head coach for the Brooklyn Nets. In four seasons, Atkinson notched a 118-190 overall record in Brooklyn. Atkinson also served as an assistant with the Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers.
