Report: Kansas WR Ryan Schadler invited to attend Chiefs’ local pro day

The Chiefs local pro day should be coming up shortly.

The Chiefs will host several draft-eligible prospects who attended colleges or high schools near the Kansas City area. We’ll have a full list of prospects following the event, but one of those prospects has been revealed.

Kansas WR/RB Ryan Schadler has been invited to attend the Chiefs’ local pro day according to the folks at NFL Draft Diamonds. The Hesston, Kansas native has been a key contributor on special teams during his time with the Jayhawks, operating as the main kick returner in most of his seasons with the team. Schadler has 59 returns for over 1300 yards and a touchdown during his three healthy seasons.

Schadler recently stood out at the KU pro day. Check out his numbers in the tweet below:

With De’Anthony Thomas and Chris Conley leaving in free agency, the Chiefs will need to find some depth at the kick returner position. They’ve been doing quite a bit of work on guys who double as return men in the 2019 draft. While Schadler isn’t a sure thing to get drafted, Schadler could easily be brought in to contribute as part of the 90-man roster.

While no one from the 2018 iteration for the local pro day is currently on the Chiefs’ roster, last season the Chiefs had signed Josh Augusta, who attended the Chiefs’ local day in 2017. It’s entirely possible that they bring some of these players in during the future if not the through the NFL draft or undrafted free agency.
