Report: Julian Edelman did not re-injure thumb in final preseason game

The New England Patriots received some good news about Julian Edelman after an injury scare on Thursday night’s preseason game against the New York Giants.

Edelman appeared to re-injure his thumb after being tackled in the first quarter, but he’s fine and it was a minor scare, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The Patriots have a very different receiving crew than they had last season and Tom Brady will need Edelman as his security blanket. He’s even been considered the most irreplaceable player on the team this season by ESPN. The only receivers that will potentially be returning to the roster from last season are Josh Gordon and Phillip Dorsett.

New England is fortunate to walk into the regular season with the receiving corps that they have currently. They bolster a crew that will potentially have Edelman, Gordon, Dorsett, Demaryius Thomas, N’Keal Harry and Jakobi Meyers.
