Report: John Wolford took majority of practice reps and is prepared to start

Sean McVay went the entire week without tipping his hand and revealing who will start at quarterback for the Rams on Saturday against the Seahawks. Jared Goff is recovering from thumb surgery and could miss a second straight game, which would put John Wolford back in the lineup.

Both players practiced and Goff did everything the Rams asked of him, McVay said, but it turns out Wolford was the one taking most of the snaps. According to Ian Rapoport, Wolford is prepared to start after getting the majority of practice reps this week.

Goff is pushing to start, but his thumb simply may not be healthy enough.

Wolford showed in Week 17 that he’s capable of starting and winning, helping the Rams beat the Cardinals, 18-7. The offense didn’t score a touchdown, but Wolford was aggressive and efficient, committing only one turnover, which came on his first NFL pass.

Goff told media members Thursday that he’ll be ready to play if needed and his thumb is “feeling good,” but this is McVay’s call to make.
