Report: Joe Tessitore, Booger McFarland out of Monday Night Football booth

ESPN will have a new Monday Night Football booth for the 2020 NFL season. The New York Post is reporting play-by-play voice Joe Tessitore and analyst Booger McFarland are done after two seasons.

Per The Post:

ESPN has informed Joe Tessitore and Booger McFarland they are out of the “Monday Night Football” booth, a source confirmed.

While they are out of Monday nights, the pair will still be with the network, according to the report.

Tessitore does boxing and will return to college football. He also is a co-host on a bizarre mini-golf show on ABC, “Holey Moley.”

McFarland has been used as an analyst on the NFL Draft — not showing much improvement over his game analysis. He is expected to have a prominent role on ESPN’s NFL coverage.

This marks the end of a two-year run that began with McFarland on a sideline contraption called the “Booger Mobile” with Jason Witten in the booth with Tessitore. In a word, it was a disaster.

McFarland moved into the booth for the 2019 season, with Witten returning to the Dallas Cowboys. The results were no better.

At different points, ESPN has made runs at Al Michaels, Drew Brees, Tony Romo, and Peyton Manning. None of those worked out.

Steve Levy is a leading candidate for the play-by-play gig. He has done a splendid job on football for the network and has earned the shot.  Dan Orlovsky, Louis Riddick and/or Brian Griese remain the favorites as the replacements for McFarland.
