Report: Joe Mixon will play in Bengals’ season opener Week 1

Joe Mixon has been one of the bigger points of speculation around the Cincinnati Bengals after he left the training camp scene and started outright not even showing up at practices last week.

And that comes with a big disclaimer: The mystery injury was reportedly migraine headaches.

But the star running back’s cryptic tweets didn’t help divert attention from speculation about a holdout over his contract given the fact the two sides continue to work on an extension.

Mixon then showed up at Sunday’s scrimmage at Paul Brown Stadium, which featured live music and pumped-in crowd noise to give a game-like feel to things.

Fox 19’s Jeremy Rauch then followed up with a report:

That seems to hint the absence is indeed injury-related, and if nothing else, Mixon will be ready to go for Week 1 regardless of what’s happening behind the scenes to create said absence.

And realistically, the only reason this gets any coverage at all is because of the potential holdout factor. Mixon doesn’t need the reps — he’ll surely be his usual self by Week 1.
