Report: Jets unlikely to re-sign CB Morris Claiborne after 2 seasons in New York

Morris Claiborne doesn’t look like he’ll be coming back for a third season with the Jets.

According to The Daily News’ Manish Mehta, the Jets are not expected to re-sign Claiborne. Instead, he’ll hit the open market and look for a new team in 2019.

The Jets took a flier on Claiborne back in 2017 after he spent five injury plagued seasons with the Cowboys. He stayed pretty healthy with the Jets, only missing two games in as many seasons.

In his first season with Gang Green, Claiborne had 43 tackles, eight pass defenses and one interception. Last season, he had career-highs in tackles (57), pass defenses (14) and interceptions (2). He also had one interception that was returned for a touchdown.

New York will now be in the market for a No. 2 cornerback with Trumaine Johnson locking down the No. 1 spot. The team plans on re-signing Darryl Roberts to provide some depth and versatility, but he is not a No. 2 cornerback.
