Report: Jets shot down multiple trade offers for Quinnen Williams

One NFL team was determined to get Quinnen Williams from the Jets prior to Tuesday’s trade deadline, but Joe Douglas wouldn’t budge.

At least one organization made multiple offers for New York’s 2019 first-round pick, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. An unnamed team “refusing to take no for an answer” offered a “blockbuster package of picks” for Williams, but the Jets ultimately said no.

Prior to the deadline, reports indicated that the Jets were listening to offers for everyone except Williams and Sam Darnold. Based on Schefter’s report, it sounds like there was no price either could be had for.

Douglas did, however, hear offers on Robby Anderson, Le’Veon Bell and Jamal Adams. Doing so for the latter has led to some tension, as Adams was not happy when he discovered the Jets were fielding calls. He has since refused to speak with Douglas or Adam Gase about the trade rumors, though he did talk with Jets CEO Christopher Johnson.

The fact that the Jets received so many calls regarding their best players — even this year’s third-overall pick — shows just how vulnerable the rest of the NFL thinks the team is. With a 1-6 record entering Sunday’s game against the winless Dolphins, opposing front offices were hoping for a fire sale.

Douglas, however, wasn’t willing to do anything drastic unless a substantial return was coming New York’s way. He got that when he traded Leonard Williams to the Giants, but no one else was able to woo the first-time general manager when trying to pluck off New York’s top talent.
