Report: Jets set sights on Peyton Manning for GM gig

One thing is for certain, the New York Jets may not win a lot, however, they certainly keep things interesting and intriguing.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio is reporting Gang Green is targeting Peyton Manning for its GM gig.

You know, the one that opened this week when Mike Maccagnan was fired after hiring Adam Gase as the team’s head coach and spending tens of millions on free agents.

Per Florio:

Rumors are flying within league circles that the Jets may make a run at the future Hall of Fame quarterback who has periodically been linked to NFL management possibilities. And Gase, who worked with Manning in Denver, possibly would be one of the few guys who could draw Manning back into football.

In the short run, Gase, who had an unsuccessful run in Miami has head coach, wears the crown of interim GM along with head coach.

Gase and Manning are connected from their time in Denver. Gase was offensive QB coach and offensive coordinator from 2010-2014. Manning finished his elite career with the Broncos from 2012-15.

Manning, of course, has all sorts of other interests and business endeavors. Whether he would have enough time or interest in such an opportunity remains a mystery.

Then again, this could be the Jets’ way of trying to get a Manning into MetLife Stadium. You know, figuring he has two Super Bowl rings along with his brother, Eli, who is a co-tenant at the venue as quarterback of the Giants and also has two championship rings.

If Manning takes the gig, he might want to keep an eye on this freshman HS phenom for seven or eight years up the road.
