Add another NFL coordinator to the list of candidates to replace Adam Gase.
The Jets requested an interview with Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll on Monday afternoon, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. New York has already requested an interview with Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy and Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. It is also expected to request an interview with Titans OC Arthur Smith, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Per Pelissero, the Jets cannot interview Daboll until after Buffalo’s wild card game on Saturday. Once the game is complete, the Bills cannot deny New York permission to conduct its interview.
Daboll has turned Buffalo’s offense into one of the most productive units in football since joining Sean McDermott’s staff in 2018. Daboll has also played an instrumental role in Josh Allen’s development, helping him throw for 7,633 yards, 57 touchdowns and 19 interceptions the last two seasons. Stefon Diggs also enjoyed the best year of his elite career during his first season in Buffalo (127 receptions, 1,535 yards, 8 touchdowns).
Prior to his stint with the Bills, Daboll spent 2017 working under Nick Saban as Alabama’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. From 2013-16, he was an offensive assistant and tight ends coach with the Patriots. Daboll served as the Chiefs offensive coordinator in 2012, Dolphins OC in 2011 and Browns OC from 2009-2010 after two years as the Jets’ quarterbacks coach.
Daboll got his start in coaching as a restrictive earnings coach at William & Mary in 1997. He moved on to become a graduate assistant at Michigan State before joining the Patriots as a defensive assistant (2000-01) and wide receivers coach (2002-06).
