Report: Jets GM Joe Douglas considering ESPN’s Todd McShay for staff job

With Joe Douglas officially being named the Jets general manager, he has already hit the ground running as he looks to fill out his staff.

According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Douglas is considering hiring ESPN’s Todd McShay for a role on his staff. McShay is expected to speak with Douglas sometime in the middle of next week.

“Joe is considering multiple options and I’m one of the options,” McShay said. per Cimini.

McShay and Douglas have history together as the two were teammates at the University of Richmond. McShay served as the scout-team quarterback for two seasons, while Douglas was an offensive tackle.

The 42-year-old draft analyst has been with ESPN since 2006. His main focus is on the NFL draft, but McShay is also a sideline reporter for college football games on ESPN.

McShay wouldn’t be the first guy to transition from TV to a prominent role in an NFL’s team front office. The Oakland Raiders hired NFL Network’s Mike Mayock to be their new general manager after firing Reggie McKenzie.

Additionally, former Browns general manager Phil Savage is another name that is on Douglas’ radar, per ESPN.
