Report: Jets among teams talking to Texans about Jadeveon Clowney

As the Texans contemplate trade scenarios for disgruntled defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, the Jets are among the teams who have had trade dialogue with Houston.

That’s according to the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson, though he noted that nothing has advanced beyond preliminary talks. Wilson added that Washington, Seattle and Philadelphia have also had discussions with the Texans in addition to the Dolphins, who have been pegged as the most likely landing spot for Clowney.

When Joe Douglas took the job as general manager of the Jets, he was adamant that he would go through every avenue to improve the team’s roster. Douglas is merely doing his due diligence here, as the Jets probably do not have the trade capital Houston is looking for, even if their demands have dropped significantly.

Houston is said to be looking for a wide receiver or a tackle in addition to draft picks. While Clowney would be the perfect missing piece to the Jets defensive woes at edge rusher, it’s hard to see him coming over at the expense of players such as Quincy Enunwa, Kelvin Beachum or Brandon Shell.

However, it is still likely that Clowney may wind up in the AFC East. He has met with Dolphins rookie head coach Brian Flores and team officials to explore a trade to Miami.

Still, the Texans and Clowney are in a holding pattern, as no trade can be struck until he signs his tender. With Clowney in no rush to do that, there’s a chance this prolongs into the regular season.
