Report: Jay Gruden could get fired if Redskins lose to Giants in Week 4

On Sunday, there’s a possibility that Jay Gruden could be coaching his last game for the Washington Redskins.

If the Redskins are to suffer a loss to the New York Giants in their Week 4 matchup, Gruden could possibly be relieved of his coaching duties, reports the Washington Post.

“Two people with knowledge of the situation say Gruden could be fired if Washington doesn’t beat the New York Giants on Sunday. Earlier this week, the betting site Bovada.com updated its odds on the NFL coach likeliest to be fired first this year, making Gruden its top choice.”

Under Gruden, the Redskins are 35-47-1 and are already off to an 0-3 start this season, including 0-2 against NFC East teams.

The Redskins won the NFC East just once under Gruden — that came in in 2015 — which was also the only time they had made the playoffs since Gruden took the reigns back in 2014.

The Redskins have gone through several head coaching changes since Daniel Snyder acquired the team almost two decades ago and it seems like Gruden could be the latest of the Redskins’ coaching carousel to see the end after almost six seasons.

Before they played the Giants, the Redskins were thoroughly embarrassed by the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. With one more loss, possibly to the Giants, Gruden could find himself looking for work elsewhere around the league fairly quickly.
