New England Patriots cornerback Jason McCourty plans to continue his NFL career and hit unrestricted free agency, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
McCourty, 33, and his brother Devin both contemplated retirement following the Patriots’ Super Bowl LIII victory. Jason has played 12 seasons in the NFL, but he still appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots last season and hasn’t seemed to slow down. He’s been a valuable piece alongside Stephon Gilmore and the Patriots would be smart to pay him and keep the institutional knowledge in place.
He’s viewed as one of the team’s leaders and retaining him would be beneficial, especially to keep both twins happy and together. Here’s what Reiss said about Jason’s future in the league.

McCourty, 33, has spent the past three seasons in New England and was asked late in the 2020 season if he was thinking about retirement. That isn’t part of the plan. I’m told McCourty, who is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent, is planning to play in 2021.
The Patriots have a lot of moves to make for the 2021 season, but having the fourth-most cap space in the league should alleviate some of that stress.
