Report: Jarrad Davis agrees to sign with the New York Jets

It did not take long for linebacker Jarrad Davis to find a suitor in free agency. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Davis has agreed to sign a contract with the New York Jets.

No deals can be made official until Wednesday, March 17th at 4 p.m. ET. Davis and the Jets reached the reported agreement during Monday’s legal tampering period. Per Rapoport, it’s a one-year deal worth $7 million for Davis to join the Jets.

Detroit’s first-round pick in 2017 out of Florida, Davis made some occasional splash plays but struggled to be in the right place at the right time and to diagnose plays quick enough in his time in Detroit. He did flash more upside as a pass rusher and when asked to do less in the overall defensive scheme under former head coach Matt Patricia.

There was an anticipated strong market for Davis, and the one-year, $7 million deal is a high figure for an off-ball LB who lost reps and played his way out of the starting lineup in Detroit.
