Report: Jamal Adams wouldn’t request extension right away if traded to certain teams

Jets All-Pro safety Jamal Adams formally requested a trade from the team on Thursday afternoon.

Adams had been seeking a contract extension from the Jets and has grown increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress. However, there are certain teams that he is willing to be traded to that he wouldn’t immediately request a new deal from, according to Dallas Morning News’ Calvin Watkins.

There is a list of seven teams that Adams would welcome a trade to, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Those seven teams are the Cowboys, Ravens, Texans, Chiefs, Eagles, 49ers and Seahawks. One thing those teams have in common? They all made the playoffs last season.

Adams’ willingness to be traded without the promise of a contract extension contrasts from the premise of his trade request. The Jets have made every indication that they want to extend him, including Joe Douglas’s comments about wanting to make Adams a “Jet for life.” However, the team is in no rush to ink a deal right now, as Adams is entering just his fourth NFL season.

The Jets can control Adams for up to four more seasons, so don’t expect the team to make any sort of move just yet.
