Report: Jags sign former UCF RB Taj McGowan, waive Khairi Clark

The Jacksonville Jaguars didn’t take the field for organized team activities Wednesday, but they did make a few roster transactions. According to multiple local media outlets, the team elected to sign running back Taj McGowan, who attended the team’s rookie minicamp in may. To make room for the addition, they also waived undrafted rookie defensive lineman Khairi Clark.

The acquisition comes after rookie fifth-round pick Ryquell Armstead sustained an apparent leg injury during Day 8’s OTA session. He had to be looked at by the trainers and helped off the field and didn’t return to practice afterward.

McGowan was a player who had some buzz coming into Jags’ rookie minicamp after impressing at the New York Giants’ rookie camp, too. Evidently, he impressed the Jags, too, while in Jacksonville and they kept him in mind throughout OTAs. At 6-foot-1 and 210-pounds, he racked up 71 carries for 470 yards and eight touchdowns during his senior season at Central Florida in 2018. He also was one of their several contributors to their 12-1 run last season and their 13-0 run in 2017.

McGowan will now join a group that consists of Armstead, Leonard Fournette, Alfred Blue, Benny Cunningham and Thomas Rawls. If he makes the most of his opportunities while Armstead is out, it could lead to a practice squad spot on the roster for the Hollywood, Fla. native.
