Report: Jags RB Ryquell Armstead expected to miss season due to COVID-19

It can’t be said enough that the 2020 NFL season will be one for the ages due to COVID-19. The dangerous coronavirus pandemic is one that has not only changed how all 32 teams operate, but is one that’s changed the world in general.

When looking league-wide, every sports organization has been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, just as every American has, including the Jacksonville Jaguars. Over a week ago, there was a positive test occurrence on practice squad, which caused the team to move to remote operations for the day and place 13 players on Reserve/ COVID-19. Thankfully, a majority of those players have returned to the facility aside from offensive lineman KC McDermott, who many fans are hoping to hear good news about in the near future.

Another Jags player who could use some positive vibes from the NFL community is second-year running back Ryquell Armstead, who had been placed on the Reserve/ COVID-19 list all the way back in early August. He had to be placed back on the list in late August after a brief return, which caused concerns from many in the fanbase after coach Doug Marrone declared that the young running back would be out for “a while.”

However, ESPN insider Adam Schefter finally provided the public with an update on Armstead’s situation Sunday. Unfortunately, it appears he may be out for the rest of the season because of symptoms from the coronavirus.

Schefter also revealed that Armstead was hospitalized twice (with the last being in early September). Of course, the time spent at the hospital stemmed from complications of the coronavirus, including “significant respiratory issues.”

Thankfully, Schefter’s sources noted that Armstead is expected to make a full recovery and also stated that he will return next season. Of course, despite James Robinson holding it down, his teammates will undoubtedly welcome him back with open arms when that time comes.

In the meantime, we’ll be sure to update the fan base on any other news concerning Armstead. We’d also like to echo the sentiments of Jags Nation in wishing him a speedy recovery.
