Report: Jadeveon Clowney rejected Texans’ offer for contract extension in 2018

Houston Texans edge defender Jadeveon Clowney is easily one of the top three best players heading into free agency this year. A three-time Pro Bowler , Clowney has cemented himself as one of the NFL’s premier players in recent years, and with 2018 marking the final year of his rookie deal, he is set to receive a huge pay increase, somewhere.

While rumors have been spreading that Clowney may end up being franchise tagged, perhaps Clowney could have avoided that path if he had signed an extension last offseason.

According to former Texans receiver Cecil Shorts, the former 2014 No. 1 overall pick turned down such an offer in 2018.

Whatever the case, many will be eagerly awaiting Houston’s decision whether or not to offer him a new contract or simply franchise tag him next month, but regardless he will surely be lining up in a Texans uniform next season at the very least.
