Report: Jadeveon Clowney fires longtime agent Bus Cook

With a week to go until the regular season and still no evidence Jadeveon Clowney will report to the Houston Texans, the Pro Bowler fired his longtime agent.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the former 2014 No. 1 overall pick was unhappy with the discussions surrounding his future and fired Bus Cook, his agent. Also, according to Pelissero, Clowney was expected to report to the Texans during the week leading up to the preseason finale. However, Clowney is still away and has not signed his franchise tender.

The Texans and Clowney have had a protracted dispute over a contract extension, but it passed a point of no return on July 15 when the two sides failed to negotiate an extension. As a result, the Texans would have to wait until the end of the regular season to negotiate an extension with Clowney. The same would be true if the Texans traded Clowney to another team. As a result, Clowney has some measure of power because he has to sign his tender before he can be dealt. If he does not like the situation, he can refuse to sign.

Houston opens up the regular season Sept. 9 at the New Orleans Saints. Clowney produced 9.0 sacks for the Texans in 2018 along with 16 tackles for loss.
