Report: It’d be really surprising if Vikings QB Kirk Cousins was traded to 49ers

If you’ve been following the NFL recently, you probably noticed the pretty big trade between the Rams and the Lions.

Certain reports and rumblings have suggested that Minnesota could be interested in doing the same, but Vikings fans should take those with a grain of salt.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport went on the Pat McAfee show and said something that ran counter to those recent rumors (H/T Skor North). Asked about Cousins playing on the 49ers next season, Rapoport said “I don’t sense that at all.”

“I would never say anything is impossible,” Rapoport said. “As you guys know, this NFL world basically taught us anyone can be traded. That one I would be really surprised about for a couple of reasons. One, I’m not sure that benefits the Vikings. And I don’t know that Cousins is an upgrade over Jimmy G. When they’re both healthy and they’re both playing, are we sure Cousins is that big of an upgrade for whatever it’s going to cost?”

Cousins just finished up his third season with the Vikings. He started rocky but helped the offense become high-octane down the stretch. He still garnered plenty of scorn from Vikings fans, but with the way his contract is structured, it seems like the team is stuck with him for the foreseeable future. If anything changes, we’ll let you know.
