Report: Initial exam showed Andrew Whitworth has torn PCL and MCL

The Los Angeles Rams had to play the second half of Sunday’s game without Andrew Whitworth at left tackle after he suffered a knee injury that required him to be carted off the field. Joe Noteboom stepped in and played fairly well, but there’s no replacing a player of Whitworth’s caliber, especially with the leadership he provides.

Sean McVay didn’t have an update on Whitworth’s injury after the game, but Jay Glazer of FOX Sports did. He spoke to Whitworth, who said the initial prognosis was much better than originally feared.

Whitworth didn’t tear his ACL, which is good news, but the initial exam did show a torn MCL and PCL.

It’s still a big blow to the offensive line, but at least his ACL and tibia are both intact, based on the initial exam. As expected, Whitworth will have an MRI to confirm the injury, but it seems the initial prognosis isn’t as bad as expected.

Noteboom is expected to remain at left tackle while Whitworth is out.
