A report from a local newspaper claims a varsity coach at prestigious IMG Academy has been suspended for allegedly making inappropriate comments to her own student athletes.
As reported by the Sarasota Herald Tribune, IMG girls lacrosse coach Kaleigh Gibbons was suspended by the school for allegedly making inappropriate comments toward a number of her student athletes.
While IMG has refused to issue a comment about the suspension, it was confirmed by a group of five lacrosse parents, some of whom were more aggressive than others in how they felt about their coach.
“Assuming all the comments are true, which I don’t doubt,” David Ducas, whose daughter competes on the team, told . “The team itself grew stronger and unified in a sense if you will because of their distaste for the comments.”
“I think the kids now are truly sensitive to racial and sexual orientation comments. I applaud them for that. That shows growth for the team. There’s not only that, but there’s just right and wrong.”
Jason Lavesque, the defensive coordinator of the boys lacrosse team, is the team’s new interim coach.
