Report: Housing frustrations led Florida’s Chris Steele to enter transfer portal

For the past day, rumors have been flying all around Gainesville, Florida amid the recent trouble surrounding quarterback Jalon Jones and cornerback Brian Edwards.

Florida freshmen corner Chris Steele has been repeatedly linked to the transfer portal for the past day but the rumors are now officially true.

According to Zach Abolverdi of the Gainesville Sun, Steele was unhappy at Florida because of some incidents regarding housing in the dormitories.

“The decision stems from a request Steele made to the staff during his first month on campus, the source said. He asked to be moved to a different dorm because he was uncomfortable rooming with quarterback Jalon Jones, his classmate.

The staff did not plan to move Steele until the summer, which upset Steele and his parents, according to the source.”

Following the recent sexual assault accusations surrounding Jones, Steele has entered the portal and will likely suit up for a different team next season.

As for Jones, he has not been charged but has left the school.

Steele (St. John Bosco HS/Bellflower, Ca.) enrolled early with the Gators in January after choosing them over USC, Oklahoma and LSU. He ranked as a top-50 recruit in the country and was Florida’s highest rated prospect.
