Plans for 'urgent' work on Kilwinning's Abbey Tower clock have highlighted concerns for the famous structure.
A report submitted to North Ayrshire Council bosses details a leaky roof and eroding window frames on the B-listed building.
The 200-year-old structure will undergo transformative conservation work if plans from Wylie Shanks Architects on behalf of the council are given the green light.
A supporting statement highlights the work that will be carried out on what is arguably the town's most famous monument.
The report reads: "Two key areas of concern are the water ingress from the roof and the heavily eroded mullions at the first floor which need addressed urgently.
"The work will ensure that accessibility to key areas is improved, water ingress stopped and lost features reinstated."
Additional work includes:
• Re-pointing and stone repairs
• Replacement of heavily eroded mullions
• Selected structural repairs
• Reinstatement of pinnacle stones
• Refurbishment of clock faces
• Refurbishment of existing timber doors
• Replacement of ground floor and first floor windows
• Installation of mesh grilles behind louvres in bell loft
• Replacement of lead roof
• Modification of stair tower roof to give increased head height.
Plans for the tower will be ruled on by planning chiefs at a future date.
