Report: Giants will work out RB Akeem Hunt on Friday

The New York Giants enter Thursday night’s game with the New England Patriots down two running backs — Saquon Barkley, who is out with a high ankle sprain, and Wayne Gallman, who is dealing with a concussion.

The good news? The team will have 10 days to prepare for their Week 7 game against the Arizona Cardinals, giving both Barkley and Gallman ample time to get back on the field.

However, in the event that neither are ready to go against the Cards, the Giants may be seeking an insurance policy.

Once the team returns to East Rutherford on Friday, they will hold a series of workouts that will include former Houston Texans running back Akeem Hunt.

Hunt originally signed with the Giants as an undrafted rookie out of Purdue following the 2015 NFL Draft, but was waived/injured as a part of final cuts and later released with an injury settlement.

After his cup of coffee with the Giants, the 5-foot-10, 182-pound Hunt spent time with the Buffalo Bills, Texans, Kansas City Chiefs and, most recently, the Tennessee Titans. He also played in the now defunct AAF as a member of the Orlando Apollos.

In 30 career games, Hunt has gained 228 yards on 45 carries (5.1 ypc) and hauled in 13 receptions for 99 yards.
