Report: Giants will work out Flynn Nagel, other receivers

The New York Giants thought they were set at wide receiver despite trading Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns in March, but after just a single training camp practice, that has proven not to be the case.

The Giants suffered a devastating slew of injuries on Thursday, including the loss of Sterling Shepard, Corey Coleman and Darius Slayton.

Coleman suffered a torn ACL and has been lost for the season, while Shepard is out for 5-6 weeks with a fractured thumb. Slayton is sidelined indefinitely with a hamstring injury.

With the receiver depth now a serious concern, the Giants will dip their toe into the free-agent pool and bring in several wide receivers for workouts, beginning with Flynn Nagel.

The 5-foot-11, 188-pound Nagel, who went unselected in the 2019 NFL Draft despite expected Patriots interest, was previously invited to Giants rookie minicamp where he impressed with his quickness, hands and ability to create separations, but failed to earn a spot on the 90-man roster.

In addition to Nagel, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur told reporters on Friday that the team will bring in several other wide receivers as they scramble to save their depth at the position.
