Report: Giants will not pursue a Deshaun Watson trade

The New York Giants are completely sold on quarterback Daniel Jones. General manager Dave Gettleman and head coach Joe Judge have each made that abundantly clear.

It’s for that reason it should come as little surprise that the Giants will not be pursuing a potential trade for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Jordan Raanan of ESPN was the first to report the news.

“This isn’t just my opinion anymore — this is confirmed,” Raanan said on the Breaking Big Blue Podcast. “The Giants are not going to be in on Deshaun Watson or any other quarterback. Daniel Jones is their guy. Book that.”

Many felt Gettleman and Judge were blowing smoke when it came to Jones simply because he was under contract, but that theory has now met its end. They have hitched their wagon to the former Duke product and he’s either going to lead the team to prominence or he’s going to cost people their jobs.

That’s where we’re at. There’s no longer any sense in debating it.

As far as Watson, a trade never seemed likely from the get-go. Not only had the Giants already committed themselves to Jones, there was no meeting any of the rumored trade demands. Two first-round picks, two second-round picks and two young defensive starters is simply a cost too high for a team struggling with depth.

Where Watson ends up — if he’s even trade at all — remains to be seen, but it will not be to the New York Football Giants.
