Report: Giants will host Maryland LB Tre Watson on top-30 visit

New York Giants linebackers coach Bill McGovern liked what he saw from linebacker Tre Watson during Maryland’s Pro Day on Wednesday, so Big Blue wants to get a closer look.

Matt Lombardo of NJ Advance Media reports the Giants will have Watson in for a top-30 visit, which he feels comfortable about after having dinner with McGovern.

“I felt like we’ve built a good relationship between yesterday and today,” Watson told NJ Advance Media. “It’s just fun to get to the actual football part, a big relief. The drills were really smooth. We did things that actually translate to the game of football, which I really enjoy doing those things.

“He said things went well. I really enjoyed our conversation yesterday, we got to talk about a lot of things other than scheme and football. He said he enjoyed working with me and the way I performed out there.”

Watson joined Maryland after transferring from Illinois last offseason and went on to record 108 tackles, one sack, three tackles for loss and five interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

At 6-foot-2, 236 pounds and with a 4.73-second 40-yard dash, Watson is an intriguing athlete and ideal prospect for several teams, including the Giants. He is widely expected to be a Day 3 pick.
