Report: Giants waive OT Brian Mihalik

The New York Giants were awarded two players off of waivers on Sunday afternoon — wide receiver Cody Core from the Cincinnati Bengals and offensive tackle Eric Smith from the New York Jets — meaning two others players who had made the initial 53-man roster had to be sent packing.

The first was wide receiver Alonzo Russell, a fan favorite who had made the initial cut due to his hustle and special teams player.

The second came by way of offensive tackle Brian Mihalik, a fringe player who appeared destined to be shaken loose once some deep roster moves had been made.

The 27-year-old Mihalik was originally a seventh-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2015 NFL Draft. After spending his first season on their practice squad, he moved onto the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions (two stints with each team) before signing with the Giants in 2018.

In four seasons, the 6-foot-9, 315-pound Mihalik appeared in 20 games with two starts, including five games (no starts) with the Giants last season.
